18,000 BC To The Future of signage
The earliest known use of signage was as far back as 18,000 BC in the Paleolithic age, where Cave Paintings were used for communication and ritualistic purposes.

The ancient Greeks, Romans & Egyptians all painted & carved onto terracotta, stone, brick & wood to advertise goods and services & to differentiate amongst trades. These were displayed in market places much like our High Streets of today.

One of the earliest instances of mandatory signage came in 1389. King Richard II of England, decreed that landlords must put signs outside their inns. This was done so that inspectors could identify and visit them.

With the Industrial Revolution & the invention of the motor car road signage became even more important for Safety.
The innovation of Plastics during World War II made made signage far more cost effective as well as quicker & easier to produce.
